To minimize the risk of back pain, how you sit, stand and lie down will have an important effect. It is also important to ensure that regular exercise is taken, which helps improve strength, increases flexibility and helps alleviate and little niggles.

It may seem that there is little you can do to improve the health of your back whilst sleeping; but this is isn’t strictly true. As a first step, it is important to have a firm and supportive mattress, which gives excellent support to the entire body. The angle of your neck is also important; which should not be too steep.

For standing as well as sitting, it is important to keep your back straight and upright. Feet should be kept flat on the floor at all times. For sitting therefore, it may be necessary to use a footrest to help. The small of the back should also be well supported, so a small cushion should be used if necessary.

For office workers, it is important to ensure your monitor is at a comfortable eye level, and your arms are kept horizontal with your elbows at right angles.

When considering exercise; it does not have to be too strenuous. Something as simple as a daily walk with your dog could be all it takes. To improve overall health, the walk should make you ever so slightly out breath; though not gasping.

Swimming is an excellent all round exercise too, whilst the likes of yoga and Pilates under appropriate guidance can both help improve flexibility and boost strength.

If going to a class or public space is something you would rather not do however; there are some home exercises that are just as effective in warding off back pain.

With your back flat to the floor, bring your legs up whilst keeping your feet flat. Then, clench your stomach muscles until you feel your rumple lifting off the floor.

Relax for a few moments after this, and with your legs also flat to the floor, lift each heel just slightly off the floor; keeping your legs as straight as possible.

Again rest, and then stand with your back flat to a wall, and your feet at shoulder’s width, crouch down to a sitting position. Hold this shape for a count of five, and slide back up the wall.

These exercises should be completed five times, once or twice a day, and be gradually increased as you feel comfortable. However, for chronic sufferers of back pain, it is important to check with your doctor first, before any exercise regime is undertaken.

The majority of causes of back pain are not known; occurring as a result of sprains, strains, injuries or trapped nerves. They can also be triggered by regular daily activities and, most notably for office workers in particular, poor posture or slouching over a desk.

Other common causes can be through bending awkwardly, and lifting awkwardly. This is particularly so if people bend at the waist; rather than bend from the knees keeping a straight back.

In some cases, quite severe and long lasting pain happens through twisting suddenly and unexpectedly, coughing violently and, extremely commonly, sneezing when concentrating on another task; and thus being tensed in the upper body.

It is also common for people to wake up with severe pain. Often, this will be as a result of sleeping in a poor position of course, but can be as a result of something a little more sizable.

Women in particular can experience back pain through pregnancy, from even the very early stages. Gynecological issues too can lead to back pain; most often Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, (PID).

Back pain could also be indicative of stress related tension, obesity, and sleep disorders. In such instances, it could be worth trying to increase the level of exercise you take in any day; be it just a simple walk to the store or walking the dog.

Arthritis, bone disorders, bladder and kidney infections, osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones), could also be causes of back pain of course, whilst in rarer case, congenital spine issues, other bone diseases and spreading cancer could also be to blame.

A common complaint, though extremely serious by its nature and the pain it causes id through a ruptured disc. Intervertebral discs cushion the movement of the vertebrae in the back, and when these fail the material within them presses severely onto the spinal cord.

Most often, pain is in the lower back; but can spread as far down as the toes as it irritates the sciatic nerve. A complaint which often effects the elderly and the obese due to the aging process and pressures on the vertebrae, it is often accompanied by a pins and needled sensation.

Whilst most forms of back pain is not particularly serious, it can be indicative of many underlying problems. Most cases should disappear after a few days or weeks however, if you have persistent back pain; it is advisable to consult with a trained physician for correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Even with studies that using a back pain support is effective, there have still been several myths created. With the thought that it has been widely circulated, it has not threatened people from purchasing the product because all throughout the years, it has established its purpose.

* It weakens the behind portion of the body.
This came about during the 1960′s and 1970′s through two articles, respectively. It was written there that wearing a back pain support caused the abdominal muscles to be in a more relaxed state. Another also rendered that it creates dependency causing deterioration. However, they were not able to have strong grounds to their claims. In the end, it was just considered as a theoretical speculation.

* Weaning it off as soon as possible
This gained popularity because of the misperception that a back pain support is clumsy, of a rigid type that prevents further motions. There is one designed for athletes that outlines the intention without even restricting motions. It was found that it boosts one’s confidence and permits a much earlier return to activities.

* Results to poor body mechanics.
A good quality back pain support encourages proper raising technique. This is because forward bending in bad posture makes it all more complex. Lifting in a correct stance will in turn, strengthen the legs, muscles and abdominals.

* It has not been worn by sportsmen.
There was a survey of professional athletic trainers that came out in the American Journal of Medicine and Sports that revealed many players have been relying in a back pain support. Brands such as S’port All and S’port Max are manufacturers that have received positive feedbacks from its customers.

Below is a list of back pain support that you can add to your cart as you log on to http://www.optp.com/

* For lumbar
Lumbar Roll can help you achieve freedom from common low back pain. It allows you to perform vigorous activities while entirely holding the sacroiliac joints. It is made out of 92% cotton that gives soft comfort.
* For posture
By improving poor posture you could cure low back pain. This kind of product does not just discourage stooped shoulders, it even helps in aligning it correctly. It can be conveniently worn directly on the skin or over a shirt.
