Why Back Pain Is So Common
Back pain is probably one of the most common ailments suffered by millions of people worldwide. This is a pain that can either be a timy nagging pinch of discomfort or pain that causes such agony that one is incapacitated.
The reasons for back pain are many but the most common reasons why people have back pain is because of poor posture whilst sitting, walking or standing, overcompensation of another injury, sports and physical activity or even excessive stress placed onto the back muscles.
Back pain does not necessarily mean that your spine or vertebrae or sore but more often a joint, muscles, tendons or ligaments have become inflamed as a result of over exertion.
This over exertion results in the muscles tightening around the injured area in order to compensate for the damaged region. This leads to all sorts of pain and discomfort that often means that the individual has to seek the professional advise of a physiotherapist, chiropractor or their general practitioner.
These medical professionals are able to best isolate the effected area and treat it accordingly through different methods of treatment. A physiotherapist is more likely to use needles (acupuncture), heat, ice and their hands in order to help the muscles and relieve the tension.
Chiropractors also use their hands but their treatment is more focused on the spine and vertebrae then the muscles. A general practitioner can assist with the diagnosis of the problem but more often than not, they will refer the patient to either the physiotherapist or the chiropractor.
Perhaps the easiest way to alleviate if not avoid back pain altogether is to exercise and stay fit and healthy. While it is necessary to maintain a healthy body it is more important to make sure that one doesn’t over do any exercises in the chase that is the elusive perfect physique.
By taking part in strenuous exercise you are more likely to do yourself more harm than good Ensure that you are properly warmed up before starting your exercise and when you finish make sure that you warm down and stretch your muscles.
Back pain can also be caused by other large joints and muscles that have become weak or injured and are not supporting the back as well they should. It cannot be stresses enough that as soon as any major muscle feels uncomfortable, consult a professional.
Back pain can be diagnosed and managed through exercise treatment and in extreme cases even medication. However the best way to manage back pain is to look after your body properly and avoid it all together.
